The Hill Climb

The first Harley-Davidson franchise in Muskegon was started by Dan Raymond and his brother Ellis in 1919. It was called Raymond Motor & Cycle Company (the franchise is now known as Hot Rod Harley-Davidson).

In 1920, the brothers organized the Muskegon Motorcycle Club which promoted various competitions and other social & recreational activities and became a model for clubs all over the region. The club staged their first hill climb on the now infamous Mt. Garfield in 1921.

The hill climb went pro in 1929 and the Muskegon Motorcycle Club still hosts the National Hill Climb Competition held at Mt Garfield every other summer. The next National Hill Climb is scheduled for August 1, 2010.

The club also organizes many other fun events such as TT scrambles, dirt drags, field events, motocross, ice races, burn out pits and more. Click Here to view all Muskegon Motorcycle Club events.
